Some Special Girls In Need

Donation protected

Many of you who know us have probably heard about, "The Girls", and if you haven’t please let us give you a brief introduction. Four years ago we bumped into 4 sisters and their mother at a Venice garage sale. They were spirited, hilarious, gracious, and loving. We laughed so much that first day. They chatted up Kristy and we all started to care right away. We offered to drive them home at the end of the sale, and that’s when the joy paused. We watched them wrestle with sharing their reality. They were homeless.

Through the years Kirk and I and the kids have done what we could for them, and truthfully it has never been enough. We’ve applied so many bandaids, and we were always left wishing we could do more. There have been countless car rides, help with homework, conversations with teachers, arranged special sleepovers, signing up for sports, inviting playdates with friends, setting out on shopping trips, sharing homecooked meals, and since finding themselves most recently crammed into an illegal parking lot over the 105 in a ramshackle RV, we’ve added countless pep talks, food deliveries, and Uber rides. So many Uber rides.

Despite the hardships and the disadvantage these girls have endured, they have not been broken. Every call we receive is cheerful and optimistic. Each text is full of joy and laughter, and when we are fortunate enough to see them in person during this crummy Covid pandemic, they emanate light and love from behind their masks. We just don't know how they do it. They are living above their circumstances emotionally, spiritually, and honestly in every way, but it is not sustainable.

This holiday season we are hoping, with your help, to start to change their narrative before it's too late. Kristy has always said if she could help get even one of these girls through college, because of their love, resiliency, grit, intelligence, and admirable family bond, it might just break the cycle of poverty for this family. It’s good to have goals. Bu the reality is remote school in a beatdown camper with 8 people is not conducive to learning, and ideally, we would love to see them in a stable home, but for now, let's just start with Christmas.

Like all kids, they look forward to the magic of the Holidays. Please help us make their season a little brighter by donating now. Our goal is to raise $2000. This money will go to buy presents, food, clothing, transportation; all the necessities many of us take for granted, and then maybe there will be just a little something left to spark some extra cheer.

We feel so grateful to have had our lives intersect with Mia, Lexi, Ava, America, and their mother, Kimberly. It has changed us forever, and for the better. It has truly been a  privilege. We know that this is a challenging time for many families, but if you can, please help us spread some holiday joy to some very special people in need this Christmas.

With Gratitude & Love,

Kristy & Kirk
