ReNEW Accelerated High School is an alternative high school in New Orleans, LA. In our school, 100% of our students receive free lunch, 25% of our students are single parents, and 90% of our students are at least 4 grade levels behind in math.

 The main goal of the students of ReNEW is to have the freedom to choose their own path after they graduate.  The students of ReNEW Accelerated High School continuously overcome their circumstances and live our 5 values of Professionalism, Empowerment, Resilience, Fellowship, and Accomplishment both inside and outside of school.

In a high school where our students come to us at an average reading level of 5th grade, there is a group of students with big dreams of attending college once they graduate.  In order to best prepare them with the tools they need to achieve their goals, they are working daily to prepare for the ACT Exam on March 17th.  These students are extremely resilient and are working through multiple resource obstacles to prepare for this test.  One major obstacle is the lack of TI-83 calculators.  

The average TI-83 calculator can cost anywhere from 100-120 dollars.  We currently have 3 TI-83 calculators available at our school which is a huge setback not only for students preparing to take the ACT, but also all of our students throughout their Algebra and Geometry math courses.  With our student population, there is absolutely no way we could expect students to purchase their own calculators and this obstacle should not be something that prevents them from reaching their highest potential on the ACT.

Myself, along with all of the passionate colleagues that I work with, are reaching out for any assistance in order to break down this obstacle currently standing in our students ways.  Please help make this a reality and empower our students to achieve their goals and have the freedom to choose their own future.
