It's not everyday a young family hears that the main supporter of their family has cancer !! I am Annie a best friend to Jeremy and Megan Smit and on their behalf I'd like to share their story with you all. I am proactively sharing with everyone who has ever been touched by them or any of their family members the trials the past 5 months have been for them !! In September 2018 they returned from a family vacation to find out Jeremys lung had collapsed. After a doctors appointment and testing they learned that he had a tumor in his lung. So they followed up with oncologists that confirmed that he in fact had squamous cell carcinoma in his lung. From there their long journey began to Sloan Kettering, where they met with a team of thoracic surgeons/oncologists. After more detailed testing they discovered this tumor was massive in size and in order to treat adequately they'd need to remove his entire lung and parts of the pulmonary artery that feed the lungs. Surgery was done Nov 13th 2018 and following that he hasn't been able to work since. The treatment plan was radiation and chemo at the same time to try to destroy cells left behind, these treatments would need to be done together 5 days a week for 6 weeks. So this young family has had to sustain traveling to Montvale NJ mon-fri for the past 5 weeks with Jeremy out of work unpaid for the past 3 months/12 weeks which is especially hard with all the holidays and heating costs added to the loss of the income. So far they've been fortunate enough to just get by with the help from their families and close friends. This journey has gotten to be longer than expected along with the recovery time he needs I've decided to try and branch out to any of you that may want to help them out with some of the financial burden this has caused them. I can only speak for me when I say that they have basically gone to the ends of the earth for me and my family, but being like their own family member I know they've reached out and touched alot of you too. So let's all please try and pitch in to make the rest of this battle a little easier on them. Thank you all, I sincerely appreciate it and I know they will too !!
