Spende geschützt
January is supposed to be the start of a new year, a time when everyone is full of hopes for the future, reflecting on the past year and planning their new goals for the upcoming year. Life took an unexpected turn in late January, when Kristina noticed a lump under her right armpit. No big deal right? She’s only 36 years old, so she scheduled a routine appointment to have it looked at so she could put her mind at ease. They immediately scheduled her for a mammogram and ultrasound which led to her having a biopsy done. Everything was moving so fast yet so surreal at the same time and then just like that, everything stopped for a moment on February 7 of 2020 when she went in for the results of her biopsy …….. Kristina, it’s cancer. She was able to have a PET scan that thankfully confirmed the cancer has not spread to any other parts of her body, so now we fight back and battle along side of her.
Kristina’s everyday life consists of being a wife and a mom to Weston and Evie, all while trying to balance work and handle the effects of chemotherapy. She will have eight rounds of chemotherapy over a sixteen week span and when those treatments are done she will then have a double mastectomy followed by radiation.
Though Kristina was planning on continuing to work in the school system as she completed her chemotherapy, surgeries and radiation, COVID-19 has the schools shut down for the foreseeable future and even if they do resume this school year Kristina would not be able to return due to her compromised immune system.
Along with many businesses closing during this time, there is also uncertainty in the coal mines which could mean that Craig's hours could be reduced with potential layoffs in the long run. For now, we remain hopeful that Craig will be able to continue to work as much as possible (aside from appointments, treatments and Kristina’s care post-surgerical care. ) however, the mounting medical bills that have already reached 9k, her medication, traveling to her treatments, and loss of wages when she is not able to work is overwhelming to say the least.
Kristina loves sharing her life with others. She has always been someone that you can count on, she challenges each and every person in her life to be the very best version of themselves, she empowers women and pours her life and heart into helping others but it is not in her nature to ask for help. So, here we are, to ask on her behalf.
The social distancing circumstances of COVID-19 makes it tough for us to do any local fundraisers right now etc. but many of you have already begun to reach out and ask how you can support or encourage Kristina during this time. They welcome all your prayers, sending words of encouragement, and if you’re able to help ease the financial burden for her family during this time of adversity it would allow her to spend as much time with her family as well as allow Craig to be with her during treatments and appointments when possible.
Thank you all for your continued outpour of love over Kristina as we fight through this together!
Love,
Her Tribe <3
