Kris's Cancer Fight 2.0
Donation protected
Our dear friend Kris is fighting cancer for the second time - something no one should have to go through, especially when he’s only in his 40s.
In 2018, Kris was diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer, and the cells and tissue were removed through surgery and he was able to have his desired top surgery. Kris was told at the time that there was a 1% chance of the cancer returning. Despite those odds, he learned this past June that the cancer came back - and it’s an aggressive strain. He had surgery to remove the tumors on July 13 but experienced complications and had surgery again on July 19, followed by more complications. It’s been an uphill battle for Kris, yet he’s been fighting to stay positive throughout.
Kris will start chemotherapy on August 14th and that will continue for the next three months. He will also be having a hysterectomy to prevent any estrogen from feeding this aggressive type of cancer. And he may need to have radiation, as well.
Because Kris runs his own one-man carpentry/remodeling company, he hasn’t been able to work since the end of June and, because of his treatments and upcoming surgery (again), won’t be able to work again until February at the earliest.
If you know Kris, you know he’s one of the most generous, authentic souls you’ll ever meet. He wears his heart on his sleeve and doesn’t hesitate to help anyone who crosses his path. Even though he’s such a giver to others, it’s hard for him to ask for help. But Kris could use our help to cover some day-to-day living expenses while he’s out of work for at least 8 months. Kris has applied for a few grants to help with medical bills. In true Kris fashion, he was adamant to say that any funds he receives above and beyond what he needs he will donate to cancer research.
Kris could also use our encouragement. He just learned he has a gene mutation (ATM) that puts him at significantly higher risk for breast and other types of cancer than most people. Now he’s trying to beat those odds so he can continue to be an amazing, loving father to his son Vinny. Please feel free to send him notes of encouragement over the next several months as he continues to have a long road ahead of him.
As a trans man, Kris has to advocate for himself in the healthcare system more than the average person — and he’s using this experience to advocate for more data and research on breast cancer in trans men. Kris will use this site to keep people updated on his journey, so please check back for updates.
THANK YOU for all your support!
