Anyone that knows Teena or Aaron would know that they would never ask, so I am going to ask for them.
The following is an update from Teena:
Anaplastic ependymoma......a rare metabolic brain tumor. The doctors said it's like winning the lotto of cancerous tumors, only in the bad way!
Not sure how I feel about that phrase. I've dreamed of winning the lotto, it didn't feel like this.
Krew is progressing and recovering from the surgery. His pain is subsiding and his mobility is increasing. To picture him not being the same athletic boy is difficult. Trying to understand why my son had to have a brain tumor is difficult, let alone one with statistically unfavorable odds.
I don't understand.
I wonder what he is thinking. Is he scared? I know his spirits are down a bit and I try and do my best to lift them and talk about the positives of the day. I hate seeing him this way. This is not who he is. I don't know what to do. I can't change what the outcome may be, only God can. Will he have mercy on Krew? Does he hear my plea? Does he hear the hundreds of others pleading for Krew to be healed?
Because of his specific tumor he has been asked to participate in a study? Is this the right decision?
They told me he qualifies for make a wish. Is this supposed to make me feel better?
We have a lot of other decisions to make regarding the microscopic cancer cells they say are left in his precious brain. Radiation is the recommended treatment by the Children's Oncology Group. The type of radiation he needs is only available out of state. We have to decide which clinic is best and where our home will be for 8 weeks.
These are all decisions I don't want to make but I have to. I pray everyday that I might have strength and courage for my son. I pray that he will have strength and courage. I plead everyday for his life.
They need help to defray the cost of having to live at, or by, the out-of-state clinic where Krew will receive his treatment. Furthermore, the insurance which they have is not going to cover everything pertaining to Krew's treatment, as I understand it.
Anything, and everything, will help.
