Recently our good friend Ren has been faced with some rough times. With his permission, we are creating this page to raise funds in an attempt to alleviate some of the financial hardship that have resulted from his recent medical problems.
A little background: For the last several years Ren has been suffering from deteriorating vision which his doctors believe is likely caused from a rare neurological disease. Specifically, his immune system may be targeting his own body. After countless doctor visits, multiple procedures and various medications his vision remains impaired and unfortunately has shown little improvement.
In the last several months, Ren noticed some additional, alarming and increasingly worsening symptoms. Specifically, he has had difficulty walking, trouble concentrating and maintaining his balance, and a myriad of other issues.
These symptoms eventually culminated in a recent inpatient stay at Johns Hopkins. During his admission, his doctors obtained imaging which showed lesions in his brain. Although still uncertain, his doctors believe his new symptoms are likely related to the same condition that has been affecting his eye for the last several years. Ren is scheduled for a brain biopsy which will hopefully provide some more information.
At this point there are far more questions than answers. Ren is unable to work and is quickly depleting his savings. Although he is in the process of applying for disability, his medical expenses are still in the tens of thousands of dollars and are accumulating exponentially (even with insurance, which he thankfully has).
This is where we come in! We all absolutely adore our brilliant, talented, goofy, tough-on-the-outside-but-puppy-dogs-and-candy-on-the-inside Renaldo. He is a fantastic friend, incredible artist (albeit questionable musician). He is someone who would always have our back when in a bind. Although we cannot remove the stresses of his new medical problems, we can however help to alleviate the financial burden that he is struggling with.
All help, large or small, will be greatly appreciated by him. If you cannot help monetarily, then give him a call or send him a text and let him know you care about him and see how you can help. He often needs rides to the doctors and enjoys company (although he may never admit it).
