Donate For Dee

Hi my name is Jackie and I am fundraising for the most special family I know.
I want to raise as much funds as possible to help out David, Helen & Dee, they have been through so much in the last few years and yesterday David gave Dee his kidney. I would like to raise as much money as we can to help them out while David recovers from his surgery, be it to pay bills or use for a family holiday.

Helens story....
Dee was born on the 16th December 2010 by caesarean section, weighing 8lb 10oz, he was a healthy perfect baby in every way, he carried on progressing as he should. He went to nursery then onto primary school and was hardly ever not well. He joined a football team and was thriving and living his wee life to the fullest.
One Sunday morning when he was 6 he awoke in the morning and it looked like someone had blew him up with a pump, at this point we were not overly worried and decided to wait until the Monday morning, and phone the doctors then if needed. When the next morning came he was even more puffy so we called the doctors and were told to bring him into the surgery. I knew something wasn't right immediately when the doctor asked if he could bring in some of his colleagues to have a look at Dee. We were told straight away that he needed to go into hospital, the next few weeks were a bit of a blur with all the tests being done. Dee was getting puffier by the day, eventually Dee got an appointment at Glasgow children's hospital and that's where the journey began.

Dee was diagnosed with Nephrotic syndrome at first which is normally treated by steroids, but this didn't work for Dee, he was then diagnosed as having Steroid Resistant Nephrotic Syndrome, our lives completely changed.

Dee has been in and out of hospital ever since, he has been on countless medications, some of which have caused horrendous side effects, his diet had to be completely changed, no sweets, no fruit, no crisps or chips, and put on fluid restrictions, at 6 years old this was really hard. We were travelling back and forth from Falkirk to Glasgow anything from 2 to 6 times per week, leading to him having to get central lines put in as it was becoming impossible for the nurses to get blood from him as he was carrying way too much fluid. This meant he could no longer play football, go swimming or even have a normal bath, Dees condition continued to deteriorate and eventually both his kidneys failed him altogether, leading to him depending on dialysis every day to keep him going. As a result of this I had to give up work to look after him as we were at hospital 5 days per week if he wasn't an in patient. Dee has been on dialysis for over 2 years now and earlier this year he had both kidneys removed and was fully dependent on dialysis.

However on the 23rd August this year his super hero Dad David gave his son one of his own kidneys, both are doing well and hopefully a brighter future for Dee will be here soon and he can start living a normal life.

Its a long road to recovery for both, hence the reason I want to raise as much funds for this amazing family as possible to make their lives a little easier.

If everyone could please donate as little or as much as they can it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Jackie

Myself and my husband James will be doing a walk from Falkirk to Edinburgh later this year and all donations for that will be added to this go fund me!!

Please dig deep :)
