Koda’s heart surgery
As many of you know, we have a furry family that we deeply love. For those of you that don’t know, I previously had a precious yellow lab named Bruiser that was my whole world, & first puppy. Sadly, we lost him unexpectedly in September of 2019. Bruiser and I grow up together from the age of 17 to 28, & we were inseparable. The love we shared was unimaginable!
After some time I adopted Koda a white ball of fur Koda ( great pyrenees) on June 21st 2020. From the very start Koda displayed many characteristics that Bruiser displayed and we have been inseparable since!
Koda was diagnosed with a heart murmur shortly after being brought into our family. After a recent visit to a cardiologist Koda was diagnosed with a PDA ( Patent Ductus Arteriosus. The ductus arteriosus is a hole that allows the blood to skip the circulation to the lungs. However, when the baby is born, the blood must receive oxygen in the lungs and this hole is supposed to close. If the ductus arteriosus is still open the blood may skip this necessary step of circulation. If not corrected the patient will develop congestive heart failure.).
After our visit today (Jan 13th) we learned Koda is in severe heart failure (chf). Koda is now on diuretics that are helping to take off the fluid around his lungs so he can breathe better.
Koda has seen two veterinarians for this and will be seeing a third on January 14th at OSU veterinary teaching hospital. Koda will hopefully be having HEART SURGERY on January 20th to close the hole in his heart. He has a 95% success rate as long as everything goes well.
The cost of koda’s surgery is between 6-8 thousand dollars. That includes preop, surgery and hospital stay. As long as everything goes as planned. After recovery Koda should be able to live a healthy long and healthy life after surgery due to his age!
We will be are doing the surgery no matter what and we are asking for a little help from our extended family. If you are unable assist with donations please share this in hopes of assistance for Koda!
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts
