Riaan & Ishaan's Kitab Korner Project!!
Donación protegida
Can you imagine a life without books? Impossible, right. No - its reality for hundreds of millions of children in India.
Kitab Korner (KiKo) is an amazing charity started by my Aunt, working hard to fix this. With donations from people like you, KiKo has built over 50 libraries for poor children in 5 states across India with a focus on English books. Its motto, “Padho aur Badho”(Read and Grow), perfectly summarizes how reading helps children grow.
KiKo is for real. Their efforts have transformed the lives of thousands of children. They were felicitated by former British Prime Minister, Theresa May, on her visit to India in 2016 for our impact in helping children improve their English, and explore global history, science, great fiction and even comics.
We experienced this first hand in 2016. In three unforgettable days, we built a new KiKo library in Jaipur at the Upper Girls Government Primary School (UGGPS) for underprivileged children. Our family worked with the dedicated school administration and some of the older school children to set up the library with ~300 books. Sitting all day long with the school children, we together bound the books to increase longevity, conducted reading sessions and made a lot of new friends!
It was truly eye-opening, made even more so when we re-visited the school 2 years later and saw the positive effect the library had had on the 350 children in the school. More heavily used than the snapchats of the average teenager, each book page had been turned over hundreds of times, sometimes dog-eared, inevitably lightly soiled by the Indian dust. Never torn, diligently maintained, the books seemed like immortal lights for generations more of children. Our friends eagerly pulled their favorite books from the racks and showed us their favorite paragraphs and pictures. They related how reading has increased their love of learning and their confidence, which doubtlessly will increase their chances of success in life.
We hope you see how your small gift can make a massive difference in these children’s lives.
We are now passionate about setting up as many such libraries in our lifetime as we can. This December, we will build 2 more libraries for 2 new schools, with ~500 books in each. We will also augment the library at UGGPS and together these libraries will positively impact the lives of 4,000+ children over the next decade, at an estimated total cost of merely $5,000 for cupboards, supplies and of course the books. Please make a small donation so we can together launch these two new libraries in Jaipur, India and support the one already in action!
Love,
