Kieron’s Cardiff Half Marathon 27th March 2022

Donation protected

I am running the Cardiff Half Marathon on the 27th March 2022.

Although this is going to be a huge challenge for myself, I wanted to raise awareness for 2 charities that I hold particularly close to my heart.

These charities are Muscular Dystrophy UK and Children’s Hospice South West (Little Bridge House).

One of my longest friend’s brother, Darrell Pearson, was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. DMD is a progressive and life limiting muscular weakness condition that unfortunately is no current cure.

Matt and Darrell also used Children’s Hospice South West at Fremington Quay located in North Devon between the years of 2002 - 2006. The hospice which is also known as Little Bridge House was where Matt, Darrell and family took, small breaks and mini holidays where the staff ensured that Darrell received the best possible care and for Matt and his family to create special memories that would last a lifetime.

Little Bridge House was one of the few places where Darrell and his family could access the facilities, equipment and support to cater for his needs.

On the 3rd February 2008, Darrell unfortunately lost his battle with DMD at the young age of 16.

Darrell wasn’t just a brother or son. He was a brave and inspirational young man with a heart as pure as gold and I treasure the fact that I was able to have known him.

Darrell is the reason as to why I have chosen these 2 charities to fundraise for. The work they do to support young people and families who are going through such emotional rollercoasters is completely invaluable.

When I start running the Cardiff Half Marathon, Darrell sadly passed away 5166 days before. So I want to try and raise £516.60 for each individual charity.

Any donation you’re able to make for Muscular Dystrophy, will support research into treatments and cures for muscle-wasting conditions. Your donations will also connect families to specialist physios to learn techniques to maintain mobility.

Your donation for Children’s Hospice South West will help families enjoy the time they have together, no matter how short. When parents can feel like Mum and Dad again, brothers and sisters can form friendships with other children experiencing the same journey and the whole family simply spend precious time together.

This is why I ask you all to spare just 5 minutes of your time to donate whatever you can for 2 very worthy charities with the money being split equally between both of them.
