Hello,
My name is Astrid Hacker and I am a recent of The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. This summer I will be going on a volunteer trip to Kampala, Uganda through the organization Operation Crossroads Africa. I will spend six weeks assisting with classroom instruction, tutoring and recreational activities along with teaching English at the Suubi Primary School. Operation Crossroads Africa is a U.S.-based, private voluntary organization that sponsors cross-cultural exchanges and small-scale development projects in Africa. The purpose of this program is to send young North Americans to work with young Africans at the grassroots level. For fifty-six years the organization has been doing just that by sending individuals to African countries to participate in women’s and community developmental projects along with medical, educational and agricultural projects. The program of Operation Crossroads Africa is designed to promote understanding of Africa and the African Diaspora based on the belief that one can only truly enter another culture by living and working in it.
The total financial need for me to participate in Operation Crossroads Africa is $3,800. This total amount includes international airfare, orientation costs, in-country transportation, materials, food, accommodations, all scheduled program expenses, visas, and international health insurance. Traveling to Africa has been something I have dreamed of doing for as long as I can remember and to have the opportunity to not only travel to Africa, but also give back while I am there is a dream come true.
I have created this GoFundMe account to ask for assistance to help make this trip possible. Any monetary contribution will be a blessing and greatly appreciated. I ask that you would join with me on this journey by lifting me and the Crossroaders up in prayer as we journey to Africa with the goal of giving back to uplift communities in need. I also ask that you would pray for every financial need to be met, and safety in our travels.
