Khayli's fund for the D.R Service Trip
Donation protected
In March 2020, I will be a part of a group of 25 students who will be traveling to the Dominican Republic (DR) to assist children, schools and orphanages in the Santo Domingo area, & in the border town of Dajabón. In 2004, Lynch School of Education seniors Maureen Jenkins & Elizabeth Nyitray created this annual student-inspired Spring Break Service/Immersion trip so that BC students would have the opportunity to compare & contrast the range of educational options available for Dominican youth in the private and public school systems, based on their socio-economic status. The students would also obtain a first-hand view of the unique needs and challenges facing the DR, and be immersed in various aspects of the culture. The trip has been successful for the past fifteen years.
As a group, we are raising funds to assist in covering our expenses and to donate to schools & food programs in several of the communities that we visit. Your donation will directly influence the lives of several groups of children in specific communities where BC students have developed long-term relationships. It will also affect the team of BC students who will engage in this unique service-learning experience. I am asking for your help with this worthwhile cause; as we head to the DR I hope I can count on you to assist us in our efforts to raise $25,000. You may send in your contribution using other methods as well:
(#1) By Mail- directed to Joana Maynard, Bowman AHANA & Intercultural Center, Maloney Hall Suite 455, 140 Commonwealth Ave., Chestnut Hill, MA 02467; checks MUST be made payable to: Boston College/LTL-Santo Domingo. Please put my (student’s) name on the MEMO line.
(#2) Donate on line- http://www.bc.edu/giveltl
Follow the indicated steps; at “I wish to dedicate my gift:”, select option “In honor of a BC student”; then input my (student’s) First & Last name, (year if known).
Monetary donations are greatly needed and appreciated, but we will also be collecting school supplies, children’s books, hygiene/first-aid products, new or gently used clothing/shoes, educational toys, and other useful items to bring with us and distribute when we arrive. If you have any questions please contact Joana Maynard at (617) [phone redacted] or [email redacted]. Thank you in advance for your support!
Sincerely,
Khayli Petigny
