Keshav's Miracle

Donation protected
Two-year old Keshav Bansal is fighting to  recover from a catastrophic, near-fatal drowning accident. His parents, Abhishek and Nishtha, need your unceasing prayers and financial help for lifesaving treatments that are necessary for the months-long hospital stay ahead, as well as the expensive treatments and therapies that will take them across the United States, requiring hotel stays, medical transport and other necessities. Please read his story and about his family below - we will post updates as new information about Keshav's condition and treatments/therapies is shared. Keshav is a vibrant boy, full of life and love -- and he has a fighting chance. Please help us make Keshav's miracle a reality.

A note from Nishtha, Keshav's mother:

My 2-year-old son Keshav is handsome, joyful, lighthearted, extrovert and naughty boy. He really loves to connect with people and easily becomes the center of attraction. Keshav’s favorite things are playing with his blocks, watching CocoMelon and playing soccer. He was born athletic and enjoys every sport, especially running. He is naughty, too clever for his own good and loves attention. His favorite book is Goldilocks and the Three Bears, which he reads with his father almost every night before sleeping. His contagious smile and playful tricks make him the light of our life.

Sadly, on September 5, 2021, Keshav was involved in a catastrophic non-fatal drowning accident in our community pool. We tried to give him chest compressions after the incident and took him to a nearby emergency center. When we reached there, he was already in cardiac arrest. After approximately, 4 minutes of life- saving efforts, his heart miraculously began to beat again! It is estimated that he might have been without oxygen for 11-15 mins. Doctors expected severe brain injury and were not sure of his later quality of life.

On the first night, Keshav began seizing every 3-5 seconds and was put in a comatose state to make them stop. The first MRI was done 3 days after the incident in which severe brain damage was observed. The main parts adversely affected were Basal Ganglia, Thalami, and Cortex. Doctors are not hopeful that he will ever be able to walk, talk or eat on his own. Currently, he is regularly breathing over his ventilator with minimal pressure support. He has since been weaned off the sedative seizure medicine and is taking a milder medicine that he can be given at home. He overcame the need for a catheter and his bladder is functioning on its own. My husband and I are dedicated to ensuring that Keshav has every opportunity to continue the fight that he’s already demonstrated he is capable of.

If possible, we are asking for any help toward Keshav’s medical bills, rehabilitation and recovery. Keshav has been in the PICU at Texas Children’s Hospital for four weeks and will rehabilitate there for more than a month. We are consulting with world-renowned brain trauma specialist, Dr. Harch, in New Orleans for treatment options. Keshav’s home recovery will include occupational, speech, pulmonary and physical therapy sessions, as well as around-the-clock nursing. Unfortunately, these treatments are costly, time sensitive and many of them are not covered by insurance.

We highly appreciate you thinking of Keshav’s future. We request you to keep him in your prayers as we totally believe in the power of prayers and are convinced that he will be with us again to share his love and affection. We love and miss him more than we ever thought and want to hug him as tight as possible. His older brother, Daksh, is inconsolable without his little brother and doesn't even want to celebrate his upcoming 10th birthday. Life will definitely be not the same for us until we have our little boy back, safe, healthy, happy and whole.
