I never thought it would happen to me, at least not so young. Cancer.
I have spent the last 7 months digesting my diagnosis. Turning it over and over in my head. Trying to accept it.
One day I cried to my mother, "I miss me"! She replied, "Kerri, I think you're more "you" than you've ever been.
Another thing for me to chew on. It took me awhile, but I realized the truth in it. I've been stripped of my health, my job, my hair, my body, my fitness, my confidence, my pride, my...humor, my social life, my job, my body, my hair, my fitness, my freedom, my future, and what is left is the real me.
In an effort to learn to accept myself, I chose to document my "new look". in a photo". I wanted it to be "raw". I wanted to see my bald head. I wanted to see my port and the wire that goes from it over my clavicle and into my jugular. I wanted to see the bruises on my stomach from the shots I have to give myself daily, and the hardest part...my iliostomy. As difficult as it is for me to see it, I wanted it to show. I wanted to see all of this, and still see myself as beautiful.
Cancer has stolen much from me, but it has not stolen my spirit.
So now, in my attempt to be brave, I choose to share the new "me" with you...
Many of you know Kerri from her many years at Outback in Port Charlotte and her great smile behind the bar at the Perfect Caper. The last three years she has worked with Opici Wines as a representative for the Venice to Punta Gorda market and she is loved by all of her restaurant and liquor store customers. Most importantly, she is a mother and role model to Dalton (20) and Austin (16). Kerri grew up the only child of Bill and Linda Lee in Sarasota and still speaks to her Mom about 17 times per day! When not peddling wine, being a Mom and a daughter or working out, Kerri is spending time with boyfriend Todd. Kerri is a fitness phenomenon and is known for her 3 hour workouts and doing lunges the entire length of the bridge!
Kerri learned on Christmas Day that she has Stage IV colon cancer. Never one to back down from a challenge, she is eager to start her treatment and to brag about beating cancer. In order for Kerri to provide for herself and her sons during this time, she will need your help; but if you know Kerri, she’d never ask …. so we are! Please donate what you can and join Kerri’s Team to fight her cancer. Then enlist your friends through social media and networking and ask them to help too. A lot of people giving will help Kerri immensely. Thank you so much!
