Kenya Development Placement

Donation protected
With globalization hitting an entirely new level in development work within the world, the Maasai people of Kenya have undergone some significant changes in order to assimilate into modern society while trying to maintain their traditional way of life, culture wise.

With the introduction of Structural Adjustment Plans to Kenya, free primary education is given to all children. However, because of the high population of children in Kenya, there are not nearly enough teachers to provide the basic education services these children are promised.

My development project placement in Kenya is designed to help with this problem. I will be in Kenya for six months beginning in December 2013. As an International Studies student, this is a huge deal to me. Globalization has had such an effect on the implementation of Western cultures and practices around the world. While this is a good thing, it is also detrimental. Culture is what makes people unique, and if we can help maintain the unique qualities of people, I would love to be a part of that!

The second part of my placement will be working with individuals in Kenya who have become Internally Displaced Peoples (IDP). More specifically, these individuals have been forced to leave their homes and seek very basic forms of security in one of the biggest slums in Kenya. Whether they were displaced by ethnic strife or governmental forces, individuals are now impoverished.

As someone who wants to advance into Human Rights law, I feel like this trip will help me gain significant insight as to which field I want to pursue.

But of course, my volunteer trip to Kenya isn't free. So that's where this page comes in. ANY donation amount will help - in specific, it will be put toward the costs of flights and vaccinations. In addition, most of the funds will be going to buying school books, paper, pencils, etc, for the children in the schools that I will be working with.

Like I said, ANY amount will help in the most significant way. If you can't donate, that's totally understandable. But if you could, please share this page with your friends, and family.

Thank you all so much for the positive support! :)
