Some of you may or may not know Kent Chamberlain, a lifelong resident of Granby, Connecticut. Kent is a Firefighter/EMT for Bradley International Airport and a longtime volunteer for Lost Acres Fire Department. In November, he was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Kent initially thought he had a possible hernia, after feeling discomfort while doing a live burn drill at work. The unexpected diagnoses came on November 3rd along with emergency surgery to remove the malignant tumor.
As you can imagine this was a devastating moment for Kent and his family. The life he and his family had known was suddenly turned upside down. He has cancer. Until that November day he was an active, healthy man at the ripe age of 32, pursuing his career and building a life of his own.
Kent has recovered well from the initial surgery, however, this journey doesn't end there. He will have more surgery which requires the removal of lymph nodes all throughout his chest, abdomen, and groin. This is a major surgery with a lengthy recovery period. This surgery is also fairly uncommon and it is imperative that only the best doctor specialized in this specific surgery perform it.
With that being said, Kent and his family will travel to New York City to Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital. He will stay there for 10 days following surgery before he is released to go home. His family will be staying in a hotel in the city for his surgery and recovery.
Since November, Kent has had numerous appointments both in Connecticut and New York and incurred many out of pocket expenses. Although Kent's health and recovery is most important, the expenses are adding up not to mention, he will be out of work for approximately 3 months. I know this will be difficult for him especially because he is so passionate about his career.
Kent continues to be the natural fighter that he is with his determination and an attitude that is truly inspiring. For those of you that know him would surely agree that he is one of a kind and would do anything for anyone.
My hope is that we can raise enough money so that all out of pocket expenses are covered and that he nor his family have to worry about anything but his health. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
