Kendra’s Life Support Transfer Fund

Kendra is a 20 year old young lady and attends University of North Carolina Wilmington.  She was brought to the hospital last Friday with shortness of breathe and was told she had 2 collapsed lungs.  At that time she received 2 chest tubes.  Her parents realized that she would need specialized care, as the doctors had never seen bilateral pneumothorax in such a young, healthy person.   They decided to have her transferred back home (2hours) to Duke University Hospital.  This expense will not be covered by insurance.  Kendra has received phenomenal  care here at Duke  over the past week and just underwent two surgeries to fix her lungs.  The surgeries were successful and she is now on the road to healing.
