Keep Lowe Winery in the Lowe Family

Donation protected

Hello,

This week the people of Mudgee and the wider food and wine community across NSW and Australia learnt the news that David Lowe is in the process of losing his property in which his family live and work, as did six generations of Lowes before him.

David Lowe and Kim Currie are passionate about wine and food, are at the forefront of innovation in their respective industries and are relentless in their support of local producers and enterprise. They manage two successful businesses that are integral to Mudgee tourism and local economy.

David is an internationally awarded career winemaker and prominent wine industry advocate. His accolades include the Graham Gregory Award for outstanding contribution to the NSW wine industry.

His wife, Kim Currie focused her career on showcasing and nurturing regions and their producers. Her recognitions include being given the Maggie Beer Award for outstanding contribution to Australian food.  From 2012 she worked with David in creating the food and events arm of Lowe Wines, before opening The Zin House, the restaurant that sits next to the cellar door.

The Tinja property has been in the Lowe family since the 1830’s. Lowe Winery, now a certified organic facility, specialises in small batch winemaking using innovative techniques. Kim Currie's restaurant The Zin House, Mudgee's only hatted restaurant and a champion of paddock to plate dining, is situated on the farm. David and Kim also live on the property on which they have both their businesses. They now face losing it all due to an ongoing legal battle.

We are asking for support. Our GoFundMe target was to raise $1,500,000 by Thursday 12th April. Off the back of this crowdfunding campaign there have been a number of private offers of support which get our goal within sight and mean we are able to reduce our goal here to $500,000. This is to secure the land and keep the Lowes' organic farm and Lowes' winery in the Lowe name. This in turn will keep safe The Zin House. Yes, this is a lot of money so we need to share far and wide. Small farms and wineries across the world from Bordeaux to Cape Town, please stand in solidarity. Give cents, give dollars, give pounds, give euros, give rands, give whatever you can afford; every little bit counts. This is for ancestry, for family tradition, for the small country farm.

Lowe Wines and The Zin House are successful businesses. A complicated set of legal circumstances has led to this. Securing this sought after financial support will secure retaining the farm, the winery and David and Kim's home.
