Keep Kara and Lucien Housed

Our dear friend Kara is in a very tight and time sensitive bind. She needs any help that we can provide. If we cannot raise $2500 by December 16th, Kara and Lucien are not discussing having a Christmas, but instead will be homeless and hoping to find a place to crash.
By the way, in South Dakota it get's to -10 degrees in winter. Currently, their autumnal temperature is 15 degrees.
After having to move do to a dangerous mold situation, Kara found herself housing as quickly as she could. As a heads up South Dakota has little to no public assistance and not very good protections for tenants. Kara has already utilized the scant social services in her area provided through churches and Salvation Army, but they have no more funds to give.
Kara is a single mother of an adorable child, Lucien, who is 4 years old. The father is absent and Kara has no funds for daycare, so she spends every day of the week with her son. There is no disposable income for childcare. In addition to being a single mother, Kara is suffering from crippling anxiety and depression due to the dissolution of her marriage and Lucien's paternal parent being unable or unwilling to spend time or money on their child.
She has secured housing vouchers for her current and future rent. The problem is that due to a clerical error, her housing assitance was 6 months late and now she is held accountable for rent from April 2017 until October 2017. The housing voucher program was supposed to be in place before her move-in to this new unit. Unfortunately, they will not pay her back due rent, because we know how hard it is to work within these systems. In addition, she was denied SSDI and needs to reapply. It is our hope that she will have more assistance come the new year, but all of this is moot if we cannot keep the roof over her head.
