GUYS, INCREASING GOAL TO TRY TO COVER HAOUA'S DAUGHTER'S LEGAL FEES AS WELL.
I met Haoua a few months ago. She is the strongest and kindest woman I know and has raised smart, talented daughters, one who has followed her to the US. Haoua was born in a religious family in Cote d'Ivoire but moved to Burkina Faso at a very young age. Unfortunately, she was the victim of female genital mutilation (FGM), also known as female genital cutting and female circumcision, i.e.the ritual cutting or removal of the external female genitalia due to her family's religious beliefs. When at a young age she was forced to marry, her first 2 daughters were forced to undergo FGM as well but, for her youngest, Fatou, she refused and has been in hiding ever since. Today, both Fatou and Haoua are seeking asylum because their return back to her homeland, Burkina Faso, would be dangerous for their safety. They are genuinely fearful of persecution because they are women (and also because they converted) without any protection by authorities of her country. I have found an attorney but defending them will costs about $6,500. We ask for your help. Please keep Haoua and Fatou in the US.
