Keep Encinitas Safe- Legal Fund

The City of Encinitas APPROVED " homeless overnight parking lot" at Leichtag Commons, located between Saxony Road and Quail Gardens Road. WE WANT TO STOP THIS PROJECT. Our Attorney has already filed a demand letter and legal proceeding are moving forward. The $256,000 grant money for the program is being given to Jewish Family Services (JFS), who will operate the lot.
The residents' concerns include the following:
(1) the location (in the middle of densely populated neighborhoods and near the YMCA);
(2) public safety;
(3) an expected increase in the Encinitas homeless population; and
(4) increased traffic.
The 68-acre Leichtag site is zoned agricultural. To get around this, the City, Leichtag, and JFS collaborated behind closed doors and declared an "emergency shelter crisis", which allows the City to temporarily change the zoning from agricultural to residential.
Note, the official count of Encinitas homeless is not high enough to justify this shelter, and the agency overseeing the grant funds would not allow the lot to be put here because of our low numbers. So, our city officials and Jewish Family Services used the COMBINED numbers of homeless THROUGHOUT North County in order to qualify for the $256,000 grant.
North County Citizens Coalition (NC3) is an LLC that has members from throughout Encinitas. Your contribution will be used for attorney fees and public outreach. Please give generously so we can keep ENCINITAS SAFE FOR ALL OUR RESIDENTS.
