G4G Fundraiser for Gambian Students in China

“Those of us who are lucky to be living in the student accommodation get supplies like masks and food from the university, but the unlucky ones living outside are left to cater for themselves. They have to go outside to buy things on their own, which increases their chances of getting infected with the coronavirus. There is financial pressure on us too as things get more expensive now. Sometimes, the food provided by the student accommodation does not meet our special dietary needs (i.e. there are certain things Muslims can’t eat). So, we have to buy food for ourselves at a high price. This is draining our pockets. The government promised to help us, which we are optimistic about, but in the meantime, any assistance will be very helpful.”
This is a statement from one of the Gambian students we spoke to about their current condition in Wuhan.
As Gambians 4 Gambia, we deem it necessary to support our fellow citizens during these challenging moments. We are kindly asking everyone to join us in raising $5000 for such a noble cause. Each amount collected will be channeled to the Gambian Students Association in China.
About 200 Gambian students are currently pursuing their studies in the People’s Republic of China, 20 of whom are trapped in Wuhan—the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak. Although no Gambian has been infected with the virus, there is a growing amount of fear of the risk of contracting the coronavirus, especially among students stranded in Wuhan.
