Just a couple weeks ago, my godfather passed away. Not only did it effect me, but it effected the entire family greatly. Not only did he leave behind a family who adored him, but he left behind his 8-year-old daughter, Emily.
Being his goddaughter and cousin, I wanted to put together an event that would raise awareness to the cancer that he was unable to beat, colon cancer, as well as raise money for Emily's future. 10 years from now, I want her to be able to do whatever she puts her mind to when she goes to college.
On April 27, 2016 from 6:30-9pm at the Newman Cafe in Amherst, MA, we will be holding an ice cream social for this cause. Half of the proceeds will go towards colon cancer research, and the other half will go towards Emily's college fund that she will use in the future. If you cannot come to the event, I urge you to make a contribution anyways on the GoFundme account. If you'd like to come to the event, tickets are $5 at the door and $3 pre-sale (cash to Cassidy or venmo @Jared-Marvel with your name in the description box).
I cannot tell you how much this means to me. My godfather was a very close family member to me, and even though he lost his battle to cancer, I want to make sure we spread awareness to how horrible this type of cancer can be. Whether you are a college student, teacher, parent, grandparent, friend, or just one of my peers that I pass by on the way to class, your contribution means everything and more to me.
