Mom's Dental Fund

In 2011, after 6 years of saving for the event, my mom was finally able to have the tooth extractions needed and an upper denture made and fitted. For many years she lived with a split front tooth and many other dental problems that made it hard to smile and in some cases hard to talk and eat. Immediately after having the work done she began saving towards also having a bottom denture along with extracting the bottom teeth giving her problems.

     Through a series of events which included having to walk away from 12 years of service as a potter and teacher, working seasonal positions until finally finding full time work, and then having that position swept out from under her due to the business closing after just one short year, my mom has spent most of her savings on the day to day living expenses that continue to rise and rise in Austin, Tx.

     In the meantime, she has had some major issues with the teeth she has left (5 now)...including breaking off at the gum line and some decay. She is experiencing pain from the condition and is very self conscious about her smile, eating , and singing with abandon....she is a songwriter and performs her songs in public. Along with needing to take care of her lower teeth, it is also time to be re fitted for another upper denture. Estimated costs for all of the work is close to, if not more than, around 3500.00. This campaign is to help with the costs of getting my Mom back to smiling, singing, eating without having to constantly assess the possibility of tooth breakage from a meal, and bringing her relief from the pain she is having. She is currently uninsured and unemployed and has yet to find a dentist that will take on her issues under these trying conditions.
