Kat's Kicking Kancer

Our gorgeous friend Katrina Davey has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Help me to help her kick this nasty disease with as little added stress as possible.

The details:

She discovered a small, hard lump in her left breast a few weeks ago… Following this, she had an ultrasound and mammogram and it showed a 1.5cm tumour in her breast and 3 inflamed lymph nodes in her armpit.

Katrina is 43 years old, works in childcare as an educator and has recently been employed in a management role at a new centre. She has two children, Jack and Chloe and their fur baby - Nala the pug. Katrina is a single parent of these 3 and is the sole financial provider for her family.

The good news:

The doctors and specialists have all said that it has been caught very early and she has a very very good chance of a complete recovery.

She is having surgery on Monday to remove the lump and test the lymph nodes for signs of more cancer. This is minor surgery and she is expected to be back at home by Monday evening. She will be very sore and sorry for a few days and will require about 1 week off work.

The shit bit:

Whilst her health prognosis is good, her bank balance is not looking so healthy.

Kat has just started a new job and does not have any sick leave banked up to cover her household expenses while she takes the next 7 to 10 days off work to recover from surgery.

As you know, Kat is a loving parent and full time carer and provider to Jack and Chloe. As a single woman, there isn't the benefit of a partners income to assist with the financial strain in a time of crisis like this. Even a week without pay can put a significant strain on the household budget.

While Kat is concentrating on getting through surgery and recovering from this first stage, the last thing she needs is the added stress of worrying how she will pay her rent and put food on the table.

How you can help:

If we all donate a small amount, we can raise enough money to take the pressure off this week. Every little bit helps... times are very toiugh right now for everyone. So, even $10 will go towards the bigger picture. If you can. please do.

Going forward:

The next few weeks will give us a bit more clarity on what the future holds for Katrina medically and we will cross that bridge when we get to it. The more money we raise, the more bills she can pay off. Treatment so far is costing her about 10K, and the ongoing cost of the medicines and supplements that she is required to take are going to be debilitating. So - we will be doing a lot of fundraising.
