Karin's AML Fund

Spende geschützt
Friends/Family/Kind Supporters,

In November of 2017 my mother, Karin, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia . Just a few short days after her diagnosis, she was placed in a cancer ICU facility for immediate treatment. Throughout the initial two month long treatment, she underwent several rounds of chemo therapy and dozens of appointments with various doctors and specialists to identify required treatment and educate her and family members about AML. Following the ICU, the long awaited trip home was a high point in this journey, but still required visits to the local oncologist in addition to several long day trips requiring six hours of travel for appointments with specialists at a major facility.
Based on the doctors understanding of Karin's diagnosis, they identified that a bone marrow transplant is the best long term treatment option.  After a couple months of testing family members and searching for qualified donors, Karin was notified in March that they found a 100% match; This was a huge sigh of relief!
In May, Karin will spend another month at the cancer facility to undergo the bone marrow transplant and begin recovery until her immune system is strong enough to return home. Once home, the recovery process will continue up to another 1-1.5 years before her immune system can fully recover.

Note: Details about specific facilities and dates were omitted for the sake of Karin and the family's privacy. If you have further questions please send a private message and we will do our best to get back.

Karin, and her family, have received an incredible amount of support and love and we share the deepest gratitude to all who have provided support and solace during this difficult time. Your continued support will encourage the emotional strength required to push through the next steps of her recovery.

We have put together this fundraiser to cover a range of expenses over the past five months in addition to expected costs in the next year plus. Please support Karin and our family during this time of emotional and financial hardship. There is no donation too small!

Funds will help to cover costs for items such as...

-Remaining hospital bills accrued during her initial 30 day intensive treatment stay from December 2017 to January 2018 (approx $3600)

-Cost of living expenses during the recovery time over the next 1-1.5 years (ex. trips to and from the hospital, recovery aid items such as masks/gloves/air purifier/cleaning services, groceries, heating, house and vehicle payments, non treatment related medications, etc.)

-New gas heating system required due to air quality restrictions during her recovery process. (approx. $4000)

-Future co-pay's and other costs not covered by insurance following the bone marrow transplant procedure.

Again, thank you all for your support and love; we will do our best to provide updates during major milestones.
