KAMPI - Fundraiser for victims of typhoon Odette.

Hi, my name is Isabel, a Filipino-American living in Illinois. I’m helping KAMPI, a collective of martial arts practitioners raise funds for the victims of super typhoon Odette (Rai)  by doing a martial arts workshop on Sunday, Jan. 30 from 10am - 3pm CST. 

 

Typhoon Odette, a category 5 storm, by far the strongest typhoon that hit the Philippines, devastated several rural and urban communities in the central regions of the country on Dec. 16, 2021. It caused close to 500 fatalities with 80 people still missing. It flattened homes, damaged structures essential to business and destroyed farms and fishing communities which are major sources of livelihood for thousands of Filipinos.

 

Many communities are still unreachable due to roads blocked by fallen trees and debris. Thousands are without basic necessities like food, water and shelter. Even urban communities in major cities are still without power and communication services are not yet restored.

 

The devastation that the super typhoon left is horrendous! The suffering it caused is great and the need is urgent!
