Quest for the Mongol Derby & raise awareness of Melanoma
Spende geschützt
Hi, my name is Kami and I am fundraising to compete in the worlds hardest horse race and to raise awareness of Melanoma and for the Melanoma research Foundation.
The Mongol Derby is the longest and toughest horse race in the world. A decade after launching the race that title is still being backed up by riders year after year.
In 1224 man of the millennium Chinggis Khaan set up the world’s first long-distance postal transmission system. Using a massive network of horse stations – ‘morin urtuus’ in Mongolian – his hardy messengers could gallop from Kharkhorin to the Caspian sea in a number of days.
For ten days each August, the Mongol Derby recreates this legendary system, building a network of urtuus at 35km intervals along the entire thousand kilometre course.
The entry fee alone is $17,500. This will go to cover the expenses of the vets, equipment, and most importantly the families that supply the horses and housing along the race.
All the funds raised above the cost of entry and flights will be donated to the https://melanoma.org
With the most recent diagnosis of Metastatic melanoma in her lungs that my mom BJ has been given. I have decided that using the Mongol Derby as a platform to raise awareness to this invasive cancer. My mom has been my biggest supporter in every equine adventure I have taken. This cancer knows no race, gender, color or age. We all need to #getnaked, it could save your life!
“Approximately 90% of melanomas are considered to be preventable and when caught early, most cases are very treatable and highly survivable. Despite this, over 207,000 people will be diagnosed with cutaneous, ocular, pediatric or mucosal melanoma in the United States this year, and over 7,100 will be lost to the disease. The MRF is committed to increasing awareness of melanoma prevention and early detection while offering the most helpful resources for treatment, survivorship and support.”
Thank you for considering supporting me in this amazing opportunity
