Thank you Kahuku Fans. Goal met, equipment ordered

Aloha Kahuku fans everywhere,

My name is Amelia Fonoimoana, and I’m a current Kahuku High & Intermediate student. Over the course of this past season I’ve had a few conversations with some of my cousins (thanks to Brock, Kaikai, and Stan for making the video) who play on the football team, as well as some of my uncles who coach, and they’ve shared with me some concerns regarding the football program and how it lacks some of the standard equipment that many other teams have, particularly national powerhouses like those Kahuku played this year in St John Bosco, and St Frances. Kahuku’s ability to compete with teams of this caliber, given the disparity of resources between our school and schools like these, is unprecedented. Yet, we know our reputation as one of the top teams in the country is because of our heart, not our money. While we may never have the resources that top tier football programs have, I can’t help but wonder what new heights we could reach if our football team had even a few updated pieces of equipment to help them.

From what I understand, the process of making donations directly toward the football program is a tricky process, so after talking to Red Raider family and friends near and far, I’ve I decided to start this GoFundMe as an alternative way to raise money in order to purchase equipment for the football team. I know that there are other sports teams at Kahuku that are also in need of better equipment but I feel that the football team is a great place to start.

For example, almost everyone I spoke to about this mentioned that a Jugg Machine (see image of equipment below) would have a huge impact of our team, specifically for our receivers for hand strength and for repetitions, our defenders for breaking up passes, and even our special team for practicing kickoffs and punt returns.

Along with the Jugg Machine, Head Coach Sterling Carvalho listed the top five equipment needs that will help our team continue to improve in order of priority:

Equipment Total Cost (includes shipping)
  • Jugg Machine - $3,795
  • Chute - $2,565
  • Tackling Sled - $1,995
  • 2 Man Sled - $2,405
  • Bags and Shields (various) - $170

A big mahalo to Uncle Keola Vendiola for contacting the owner of Jugg Sports, the company that makes the Jugg Machines. Jugg Sports doesn’t normally ship to Hawaii but Uncle Keola got the owner to agree to ship it to Hawaii for free.

All donations will be used to purchase the equipment in the order listed above unless the donor requests the money to be used for a specific item on the list. Any money that doesn’t reach the amount for the next item on the list will be used for tackling bags. Also, if we surpass the donations, those funds will be used to purchase other equipment needs as directed by the Kahuku football coaching staff. Donations will go through a non-profit that will purchase the equipment for the football team to use both during the season as well as during off-season training (pylons).

Thank you all for your support and Go Big Red!!!
