Information about The Play House Child and Family Wellness Center:
The Play House Child and Family Wellness Center aims to provide a broad range of personalized, innovative, and ethical services that address the psychological, educational, social, and developmental needs of the surrounding communities. The Play House philosophy is that we will endeavor to provide the necessary supports to each family unit in an effort to stimulate the healthy, happy and secure development of the whole child: socially, emotionally, cognitively, physically, morally and creatively. We seek to create a warm, safe, engaging and fun environment that nourishes the child via a well-rounded service provision model that includes child care, academics, and play and mindfulness based psycho-education components.
The Play House and its comprehensive model offers both the parent and child access to a collaborative team of high level mental health and child development professionals and their resources in one location. Services include a full time and part time therapeutic-play based preschool curriculum; Child Enrichment courses such as Mini Yogi Yoga and Baby Signing Time Sign Language and Movement for children (indoor play and mindfulness); Nature Corner: The Green Hour Initiative (outdoor play and mindfulness); Art and Music Therapy Socialization groups; Individual, Couples and Family Therapy; Psychotropic Medication Management; and Parenting Education and Advocacy.
Formerly known as South Central, the proposed location for The Play House, resides in South Los Angeles, Children and families in this community present as being benefited by a program geared toward a lower income African American community.
The Play House will ensure a high quality program in a nurturing and safe environment that caters to each individual child and their families' needs to assist in producing effective and developmentally appropriate learners regardless of culture, religious or family beliefs, and our educators and service providers will be sensitive to and respectful of these practices.
The Play House Child and Family Wellness Center has partnered directly with Fields Family Counseling Services, Inc. (FFCS), to assist in creating an integrated familial environment with a therapeutic focus that embraces the value of whole health wherein social services are available for all present including children, staff, and parents. FFCS (www.ffcounseling.com) has a proven track record of working in the education environment with emotionally disturbed youth. Their primary expertise is working with families and children providing IEP mandated services in the school environment. Their therapeutic approach utilizes Gestalt based play therapy and mindfulness. FFCS currently manages the behavioral health component for a various non public schools and runs a mindfulness based cognitive therapy curriculum in collaboration with the University of Southern California Department of Psychiatry for students enrolled in grades K-6. They also provide community based services such as individual, couples, family counseling as well as child and adolescent socialization in a group practice setting in Pasadena and San Bernardino, California. The Play House and FFCS partnership allows for the education and behavioral health curriculum to blend effortlessly as all services are housed in one location.
In addition to partnering with The Play House, FFCS is raising money to support the Therapeutic Play Foundation. Therapeutic play is used to improve the emotional well being of children by using creative arts and play. Through the partnership between FFCS and the Therapeutic play Foundation, The Play House will be able to utilize the money raised to provide the service of therapeutic play to the children enrolled at The Play House.
What we are asking of you:
In order to to create The Play House Child and Family Wellness Center, we are asking for donations to help fund this project. In order to put down money on the property and in order to complete the renovations that are necessary to open The Play House, we need an initial sum of $150,000. We have sought additional funding from other sources, but we have created this kickstarter campaign to raise additional funds for our preschool. Donations of any size are welcomed. Remember every little bit helps!
