On February 1st, Rosemary fell at home and broke her left ankle. After undergoing surgery, she was discharged home because her insurance would not approve a stay in a rehab facility.
On February 12th, she fell again, this time causing a serious open fracture and was readmitted to the hospital in Gainesville, GA. From there, she spent 17 days in rehab in Hiawassee. She developed an infection and was sent back to the hospital. There, they completed 5 surgeries to try and save her leg. After an extended stay, the doctors finally made the decision we all feared. The ankle would not heal, and the infection was only getting worse. They determined that the foot would have to be amputated. So, on April 17th, they amputated Rose's foot below the knee. She has now been moved to a new rehab center for recovery.
While her insurance has covered a ton of expenses, we are looking at several thousand dollars of expenses that have not been covered and there will be ongoing expenses that they won't pay. We are asking that if you feel led or compelled to help out with these expenses, we would be extremely thankful. Rosemary is on a fixed income, and covering these expenses will be very difficult. Thank you in advance.
