“Helping Women Brings Good Things”
This year is the 10th anniversary of CAUSE TO WONDER. Replacing "abracadabra" with" Helping Women Brings Good", the magician uses curiosity to start a village discussion. If you want people to think, give them CAUSE TO WONDER. Grassroots impact for change.
Cause To Wonder is heading to the West Indies where our target audience is boys that live in homes where beating women is a normal part of marriage. We plan to go as soon as we raise the funds and the pandemic danger is past- spring 2022 is the target.
We created a traveling show with a comedy magic show to capture the attention of young men. The tricks are puzzles for entertainment; no black magic here. By simply replacing the words abracadabra with " Helping women brings good things.”or ”If you want good luck , do not hit women.” we introduce notions of women’s rights. The boys love it. They tell everyone about the event. They repeat the words…..as they tell their story of their experience....it ignites discussion of women's rights in kitchens and on playgrounds!!!!!!!!!!!!
First the boys begin to notice that the men who are kind to women have happier lives. Then the boys begin to experiment with negotiating without violence.
Cause to Wonder is now bringing this message to the West Indies where violence against women continues unchecked for lack of education and government protections. West Indian culture sees violence as normal in a marriage. This must evolve. Currently the local expression “ If he does not hit me, he does not love me.” is uttered by women to comfort themselves in their impossible position.
When it comes to innovation and change, there is no force more potent than human curiosity.
The Cause To Wonder fundraiser is going to make make an impact. The money will be used for Grenada transportation, our performances, inexpensive lodging, and signage.
The United Nations High Commission of human rights also invited Cause to Wonder to give a briefing of its effective grass roots methods. Measures and impact reports indicate fascinating details.
Cause to Wonder's work has been Featured on BBC world service, PBS, CNN, Disney,Discovery Channel and in The Wall Street Journal, Entrepreneur, and Inc. Magazine.
Cause to Wonder has also travelled around the world (Sicily, India, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Tortola, St Thomas, and Antigua) Soon it will be in Grenada.
