Chris Ott Cancer Expense Fund

I am setting this site up on behalf of Chris Ott.  Chris lives in Augusta County and is currently attending college at Virginia Tech.  I first met him in 2008 when he became a volunteer EMT with Waynesboro First Aid Crew at the age of 17.  Chris volunteered his time to help out his community in addition to going to school full time and working.  A short time after I met him, he shared with me that the reason he entered the medical field was because his younger sister had bone cancer and he wanted to be able to help her and others like her.  Once he graduated high school, he continued to pursue his education in the medical field at Virginia Tech, continued to volunteer his time as an EMT at our organization, and is so dedicated to helping others that he also became a member of Blacksburg's rescue squad. His passion to help others with cancer is so strong that he also served on Relay for Life committees his sophomore and junior years at Tech, serving as the Events Chair on the Executive Committee in his junior year, to raise money for cancer research.  Unfortunately, in a sad twist of fate, at the age of 23, Chris has recently been diagnosed with thyroid cancer.  I am happy to report that he is responding well to his treatment and has a good prognosis, but has been unable to work since his surgery.  Since he has given so much of himself to help others, his EMS "family" is coming together to try to raise money to help his family with medical expenses, especially since this is not the first member of his family that has had cancer treatment expenses.  Please join us in our campaign to "rescue the rescuer" and help give back to Chris some of the help he has given to his community.
