Justice for Towan: A Mother’s Fight

Standing alone in court to demand truth, accountability, and justice for my son.
My name is Christina Moore, and my family’s world was shattered in August 2022 when my son, Towan, had his life taken. The police cleared the scene before all evidence was recovered, and I later found more of my child’s remains—twice. Despite evidence pointing to multiple people being involved, only one person was charged, and the case was closed. I am representing myself in local, state, and federal courts to demand accountability, but the legal costs are overwhelming. I am asking for your help to cover fees and expenses so I can keep fighting for justice.

In August 2022, my family’s world was shattered when my son, Towan, had his life taken. What should have been a thorough investigation was instead marked by negligence, mishandling of evidence, and unanswered questions.

The police cleared the crime scene, but after it was declared clear, I was the one who discovered additional parts of my child’s remains on August 20, 2022. I did not make this discovery alone—four witnesses and two officers were present. I personally handed the evidence to the officers, but they failed to take proper action and never re-examined the scene, despite reassuring me that it would be done.

On August 29, 2022, I returned to the site—not to search, but to lay flowers for my son. To my horror, I discovered even more of his remains. This time, two of my witnesses were with me. I collected the evidence myself and had to call an officer to come retrieve it. No mother should ever have to recover her child’s remains—let alone on two separate occasions, after the police had already declared the scene clear.

Later, the case was closed after they arrested and charged just one person. But the truth is that more people were involved. Evidence—including two unknown male DNA profiles—points to at least three people being connected to my son’s murder. Instead of fully investigating, the system chose to stop at one charge and leave the rest unanswered.

Since then, I have been on a long and painful journey for accountability. I have gone to local, state, and federal courts, trying to make sure those responsible are held accountable and that all the evidence is addressed. Some higher courts have dismissed my case by saying the statute of limitations has passed. But the truth is, I was hindered from filing on time due to withheld information, delayed disclosure, and the trauma of personally recovering my son’s remains. Under equitable tolling, I still have the right to fight for justice, and that is exactly what I intend to do.

Unfortunately, every lawyer I have approached has turned me away because the case is complex. That has left me to represent myself—researching laws, filing motions, and standing alone in courtrooms.

But I cannot give up. Towan deserves justice. This fight is not just for my son, but for every family who deserves truth and accountability when tragedy strikes.
