Stand with Us: Legal Battle for a Child’s Safety

Led by faith. Fighting for a child who deserves safety.

I’m writing this as an aunt who loves her nephew fiercely, and as a sister standing beside a mother who has done everything humanly possible to protect her child.

Eight years ago, while pregnant— she left an abusive situation so her unborn child would never grow up believing that fear and cruelty were love. She hoped those chapters would be behind them. Tragically, they were not.

My nephew has since endured abuse and torment by the one person he should have been able to trust. The things this child has shared are heartbreaking and unimaginable. He has been diagnosed with PTSD and lives with a constant, crippling fear that he may be forced to face his abuser again. No child should carry this weight.

My sister has spent years trying to handle this quietly, responsibly, and with dignity — always putting her son’s wellbeing first. But now, protecting him requires a legal battle that she cannot face alone.

The reality is devastating: attorney fees may exceed $100,000, with $60,000 required just as a trial deposit. These costs are not about revenge. They are about protection. About ensuring this child is heard, believed, and safe within a system that can feel overwhelming and unforgiving. The other party has substantial financial resources and is using them aggressively. My sister does not.

She has spent every dollar she had. Our mother, recognizing the urgency, even gave her small retirement fund. There is nothing left financially — but there is unwavering determination, extensive documentation, and a mother who will never stop fighting for her child.

My sister had to step away from work, from normal life, and from any sense of comfort to focus entirely on her son’s healing and this case. Asking for help does not come easily to her, but she has reached a point where she cannot do this alone.

That is why I am asking — on behalf of my sister and my nephew — for help from our community.

Every contribution will go directly toward legal representation to protect a child who lost his sense of security far too young. A child who deserves peace, stability, and a future free from fear. He deserves his childhood back.
