Just Human

Donation protected

As we carve out time to celebrate our mothers today, I wanted to take a moment and call attention to mothers who have overcome the most difficult circumstances to provide for their kids.

A few years back my sister Cate co-founded Just Human , a non-for profit that collects, stores and redistributes home goods to moms and their kids transitioning into new homes escaping domestic violence.

The good news: Donations are pouring in. COVID has created a unique window for families to make home renovations and improvements. This has resulted in an influx of donations and with no shortage of families in need, we couldn't be more excited about our ability to turn empty apartments into homes.

The uphill battle: While the donations are greatly appreciated, like everything in life - there are unexpected costs. Cate has managed to put together a small army of volunteers that help move the donated items but is currently paying for storage units, U-hauls, tolls etc. out of her own pocket. For those of you who don't know Cate, she's dedicated her life to helping those in need and has thrown herself into this cause.

I've been fortunate to tag along on a few of these "set-ups." If you ever need a reminder of just how fortunate we are, I encourage you to volunteer an afternoon. It will put things in perspective VERY quickly.  As you can imagine, these are not the best neighborhoods...but that's not the reminder. The reminder is realizing you just gave a 12 year old their first bed, their first couch and more firsts you than you can possibly imagine as they transitions from shelters to homes.

Cate doesn't know about this go-fund me. She has never complained about the financial toll it has taken on her and she never will. I'm starting this because I want her to understand that she is not alone. I want her to understand that while she continues to dedicate every moment of her free time, some problems can be solved simply by asking for help.

So here I am, asking for help. Any donation made will be used to cover overhead to make sure Just Human can continue to operate and give these families a second chance at a new life.

Thank you in advance for your generosity and if you're looking to get rid of any furniture / home goods, give me a shout. We'll be there to make sure it gets to the right people.

Thanks,
Bobby
