HELP US SAVE JULIAN'S 1928 GAS STATION!
The Village of Julian has owned the gas station and garage since 1987 when it was purchased from the Farmers Co-op of Nebraska City. If action to preserve it is not taken soon, it may be too late to save these two old buildings. Being a small village, available tax funds are utilized to maintain essential services for the residents and are not plentiful enough for preservation projects like this one. That is why the committee has decided to reach out to you and many others that have strong ties to Julian to help preserve these two structures.
The committee fells that this project can be accomplished in phases, as funds are available.
Phase 1: Replace roof and repair soffits on both buildings and repair center support column on station
Phase 2: Repair or replace windows and door, and repair damaged plaster on inside of the station
Phase 3: Purchase and install two nonfunctional refurbished 1960s style gas pumps
Phase 4: Replace existing concrete around station
Projected cost for phases 1-3 is $13,200. Phase 4 would raise the total projected cost of $21,000. One individual has donated $1000 to establish the Julian Preservation Fund and we are inviting you to help make this project become a reality by giving an amount that is meaningful to you.
If funds are raised in excess of what is needed for the Filling Station project, the additional funds will be utilized for future Julian preservation projects on publically owned property. Projects that have currently been identified include a welcome sign for Julian, an official Nebraska Historical Marker that describes the history of Julian, improvements to the Village Park, and an new information board at the community building.
Any amount you can give will help this commuinty restoration effort. Please share as possible!
