Julia & Chloe's Volunteer Trip

In the upcoming summer, we hope to volunteer in Africa with GLA. Global Leadership Adventures (GLA) is an organization that provides volunteer opportunities for high school students to many different destinations ranging from Haiti to Bali. Since most of you know both of us, we combined our requests for donations into one page so you could support both of us at the same time. Julia:
In this upcoming summer (July 27th- August 9th ) I hope to travel to Ghana for the ‘Foundations of Global Health’ volunteer trip where I will help to improve the health and sanitation for a local community. Over the course of two weeks, we will develop strong bonds with the local community as we help improve their living conditions. When we are not volunteering, we will be developing knowledge and understanding about traditional medicine and culture in Ghana.
This trip is closely related to my own personal interest. For as long as I can remember, I wanted to do something related to medicine. As I’ve grown up, that interest has grown stronger and stronger. This trip combines my future career goals with current humanitarian needs and will allow me to volunteer in a way that will make a true difference in the world.
Ghana is a developing country that has been struggling with health for many years. According to the CIA World Factbook, Ghana has an average life expectancy of 67 years, one of the lowest life expectancies in the world, partly as a result of poor sanitation. Only 15% of the total population has access to a sanitation center. Ghana also has a low physician density of 0.1 physicians per 1,000 people. This country is in need of help, and my goal is to work with the GLA to improve the quality of life for one community in Ghana.
This 14-day trip is packed with volunteer activities. As a whole, we will complete 40 volunteer hours. Working in a different country, we will experience the African culture and develop strong relationships with the local people.
The cost of this trip is $3,700. In addition to babysitting and bake sales, I hope to raise this money through donations to be able to participate in this once in a lifetime opportunity.

Hello all! My dream is to be an international teacher, more specifically, working in Kenya where many kids don’t have access to quality education. I’ve had a desire to teach in Africa for a few years and am finally old enough to participate in a volunteer program with school children in Ghana.
During my 21 days in Ghana, not only will we be working directly with the children in the classrooms, we will be improving their school facilities, learning more about their culture and current social issues and exploring their beautiful surroundings. With this big opportunity heading my way, I would love to tell you how you can support me!
In addition to raising money though tutoring 3 local Chinese girls and taking any babysitting job that I can, I would love for you to donate any amount that you can to help me reach my goal of $5400.
