Joy, Empowerment, Diversity, and Inclusion in PDX
To assist our friends living outside, Burners Without Borders Portland has launched the Joy Empowerment Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) project. We're providing infrastructure support, creativity incubation, and joyful experiences to the Creating Conscious Communities for People Outside, or C3PO, coalition. C3PO is a collective of 12 nonprofit organizations and 3 40-person community villages (Old Town, BIPOC, and QA) where houseless residents can share resources, develop accountability structures, and evolve mutual aid relationships during the global pandemic.
These efforts will be ongoing, but our first project is to create warm community spaces where residents can protect their mental health by gathering at a safe social distance. Given the recent spikes in coronavirus rates in our city, it's essential that residents can get out of their tents into a larger space that's protected from the rain and cold. These communal space domes will be used for weekly village meetings, gardening, woodworking projects, arts workshops, community meetings, holiday meals, and warming areas. We are ecstatic to report that we’ve been able to fund 2 domes with your help, and have been hard at work in the shop prepping materials!
We have one set of materials remaining to purchase PVC for.
