Journee to a new heart

Imagine getting ready to go into the 8th grade. You are excited about trying out for track and basketball. You Finally find an amazing friend to navigate the most important years of your adolescent life. As you start your first semi normal school year post the COVID shut down your grades are top notch and for the first time in a long time everything seems to be falling into place. Late October you develop a cough that just wouldn’t go away. No big deal some of you may think …. But for young Journee this was the start of something that no one could wrap their heads around. She just couldn’t get back to normal. She had a nagging cough, lethargic, and had problems breathing. Her mom took her back and forth from urgent cares and her primary care physicians office countless times with different medications. Still Journee wasn’t getting better. In December Journee’s mom took her to the dr and pleaded that something just wasn’t right. After a heart scan she was rushed to Brenners Hospital where she was admitted because she had fluid around her heart. After a week of praying, medications, and tests Journee was sent home feeling a bit better. After a week of monitoring she was taken back to Brenners only for her mother to hear a sentence that would knock the wind out of any parent. Journee needs a new heart. She was then diagnosed with Cardiomyopathy. Journee was then transferred to Charlotte’s Levine Children’s Hospital where she is currently navigating the process of a heart transplant. With family and friends by her side and in her corner Journee at the young age of 14 is showing how God works in mysterious ways. He continues to keep her from procedure for procedure. As we all rally behind Journee, her parents, grandparents, countless aunts, uncles, cousins and friends we are asking for your support.
