At first, there was COVID-19.....but then there was art...

When COVID-19 hit, and school let out in March to never resume for the rest of the school year...Well, I had to tell my 2nd grader Josslyn that schools were starting spring break early. Being a girl who loves school, her friends and teachers, she was disappointed that she wasn't going back to school on Monday; and the questions started pouring in, and I had to share that there was a  sickness going around and everyone was staying home to keep ourselves and others safe as a precaution.

We tried to find the positives in getting to stay home, and we found quickly that there were many.  Realizing that our glass was really half full, we started thinking,  how could we help others during this time? We talked about how there must be people that the sickness going around would be especially hard for, like people who do not have homes and when it was still cold in early spring, how hard it'd be to sleep outside at night being cold, or being cold AND sick, not having water, food and sanitation supplies... that this would be an especially scary time to not have a safe, warm home and all that you need to be safe and healthy. After some thought, my daughter came up with an idea, " I know! I could paint some paintings, and we can sell them!"

Feeling touched and inspired by her sweet idea, we ran with it and we went out and bought some canvases. She painted the entire first week of spring break, nearly all day with a happy heart and usually  humming a tune as she painted. The next task was finding an organization to donate to. Joss was able to narrow  down her search for a local organization when my Facebook friends in the masses suggested Southern Oregon Jobs with Justice. We heard from volunteers there about all that they do. It was so in line with what we had been talking about that Josslyn quickly decided that they would receive the proceeds from her paintings. And so began her self titled "Paintings for Hope" mission!

Being a Mom and a Human Service worker, I am so proud of my sweet 8 year old, who has a heart bigger than she is... For being creative and finding a way to show unconditional love and support for others during perhaps one of the most trying periods of our lifetime. Since the start of the Coronavirus, she has already raised and donated $100 to SOJWJ. Her new goal is to raise another $200 for the organization to keep supporting and providing resources to our communities most vulnerable. Now we invite you to be a part of supporting our local unhoused community during COVID-19.  We can all make a difference when we all come together to support our neighbors, housed and unhoused alike. We are all in this together.

Josslyn and I are so thankful you stopped by here to show your support for her and her cause!

Many Blessings!

-Josslyn and Ky

---How to Receive a Painting  for Your Generous Donation---

Step 1: Make a donation. We suggest a min. Donation of $10 to recieve a painting. If you'd like a specific painting, please contact me via the contact button to confirm availability.

Step 2: Contact me once a donation is made to choose from available  paintings and to arrange FREE local drop off or pick up.

If shipping is needed, please be aware that since all donations go directly to Southern Oregon Jobs with Justice, I cannot deduct shipping costs from your donation; so a separate shipping fee will need to be processed via Venmo (which we can discuss when you contact me). Depending on how far the painting needs to travel,  shipping can cost up to $13 in our experience.

I wish we personally had the resources to provide free shipping!!! But we are just an ordinary family, going through tough times just like everyone else due to COVID-19, and trying to make a difference. Thank you for your generosity! We value your donation and investment into our community during these difficult times.

Step 3: Recieve your original painting via pick up, drop off locally or via shipment arrangement. Enjoy!

-----Disclaimer-----

-Once paintings have all been sold, I will end the fundraiser. I will allow the fundraiser to go over $200 when/if there are still enough paintings to go around! (P.S., that'd be pretty spectacular to help Josslyn exceed her goal to support SOJWJ!!!)

-Paintings are given 'as-is', first come, first serve basis.

We thank you for teaming up with us!
