My brother/ friend/ ride or die, Jerry McKendree, is a police officer for NC State Capitol Police. Jerry has worked for State Capitol PD for 15 years. Prior to that Jerry was an Army Medic and then reclassified infantry paratrooper, and has worked at other law enforcement agencies.
Jerry was diagnosed last October 2019 with head and neck cancer. He underwent a neck dissection and partial Glosectomy "in other words" he had his lymphnodes on his right side and part of his tongue removed. He underwent 30 days of intense radiation. That was January 8th, 2020. That alone is a long recovery period. He was starting to heal when he had hoped that he could return to work on June 1st 2020.
On May 1st he had to have an emergency appendectomy. Then one week later discovered another small lump on his neck opposite side from before. The cancer moved to the other side even after radiation. He then had another major surgery on the other side of his neck. A follow up PET scan showed that his cancer has mastesized to his lung! His cancer is a very aggressive squimicell. They scheduled him for surgery to remove the cancer from his lung. It was canceled/ delayed, because he had gotten MRSA on his last surgery site. He finally had part of his left lung removed and now must apply for disability. Jerry is trying to make it to his retirement date, which isn't until March 20, 2021 (When Jerry will be 55 years old).
Jerry’s journey and fight has been complicated by the nasty and often politicized word “Coronavirus”. Jerry’s wife, Cynthia, has worked for a local real estate business for many years which focuses on rentals. According to doctors, Jerry was advised that he was extremely vulnerable to catch Coronavirus and the effects of the virus would be extremely dangerous for him. Cynthia was advised by doctors that due to Jerry’s condition she needed to limit her exposure to people at work. Cynthia was initially allowed to from home, but received a reduced salary. Later the real estate company laid off Cynthia.
Jerry and Cynthia need our assistance to help pay for medical expenses, travel expenses, and normal life bills.
Please help by relieving some of the financial stress from this Warrior, so he can concentrate and fight the battle of his life against cancer.
