Join Kolt's Journey to Beat Cancer

Spende geschützt
On behalf of Kolt's family and friends we have started this to help Kolt in his current battle against cancer, as well as take care of his future medical related needs if they so arise. There were some unforeseen issues with the first one and we had to redo the entire thing to get it to work properly. If you prefer to donate in person, you can at any Summit Credit Union under the fundraising account Kolt Buchan #koltstrong. Thank you for helping and God Bless.

From the family –

Hearing the words "There is a large mediastinal mass constant with lymphoma" is by far the worst thing I have ever been told. Following that news up with then having the hardest words I have even had to speak in telling Kolt he has cancer it was a really shitty 24 hours. But here we are and we are fighting.

How it started -

Kolt was losing weight in the recent months but given his ADHD meds he is on along with high activity athletics of the past 6 months this wasn't seen as a surprise. However, over the last few weeks he just had not been himself, was spiking a couple lower grade fevers and now was barely wanting to eat. I just had that gut feeling something was wrong and made an urgent appt for him Monday. A bunch of blood draws and a chest x-ray later we were suddenly being admitted to Children's Hospital Oncology.

Current situation -

Large mediastinal (under his sternum between his lungs) mass in his chest measuring 14x13x7 cm approximately the size of a soda can. It basically extends from that notch under your neck to the bottom of his diaphragm. The mass is so large it's squishing his heart causing him some airways issues. There is also fluid around his heart due to the compression that may have to be drained. We have a confirmed diagnosis of T-cell leukemia (T-ALL) which is a form of blood cancer. They have placed a PICC line, and he already has received his first round of chemotherapy. Now we hurry up and wait...

Going forward -

Kolt is going to live. If there was one bad ass kid that can beat this it's him. This form of cancer has an extremely high cure rate, north of 92% according to our doctors. He has 28 days left in his first round of chemo then with be followed by 5 more months of treatment. After that it sounds like another 2.5 years of maintenance treatments. Unfortunately for him he is done with school for the rest of this year, baseball season is over and football season too. This is a petty stuff in this game of life we are in right now. He will have a long frustrating road ahead of him in the coming weeks and months but at the end of the day when he is cancer free it will be all worth it. Kolt will likely be admitted for at least another week before he hopefully gets to go home.

Update -
Kolt was able to finally be released on 5/14 almost exactly a week to the day of all this starting. He still has a very long road ahead of him, but he is a Warrior and will prevail. Kolt currently just finished up his third round of chemotherapy which is really taking a lot out of him . However, this kid doesn’t know the meaning of quit and will prevail.

Tell your kids or whoever that when they see Kolt that he will gladly talk to them about it, and honestly would likely love to. We have zero issues talking about it either so don't be afraid to ask anything. We are all here supporting him. He is anything but out of the woods yet but it's in God's hands and we have faith. We will keep everyone updated. And make sure you hug your kids a little bit tight and longer tonight...
