John Shack's final humanitarian journey to Georgia
Spende geschützt
John Shackleton has bought and stocked 35 ambulances over the last 30 years to provide emergency vehicles and medical equipment to humanitarian organisations in Eastern Europe and beyond.
John's latest (and possibly last) mission is to a care centre (offering basic dental and medical treatment) on a farm near the Georgian/Russian border in Gardabani. Mark B, Marc A and Harris are going to join him as co drivers.
Georgia is a very poor country and has been negatively effected by the war in Ukraine. The care centre needs an ambulance to bring aid to refugee camps and take injured people back to the hospital. The refugees are mainly from Iran, Afgahnistan, Syria and Ukraine. In addition to the ambulance, we will bringing medical supplies, blankets and tools to give to the care centre.
We expect the drive to take around 7 days and the team will be sleeping in the ambulance during the trip.
John's charity (Aid to Eastern Europe - www.aidtoeasterneurope.co.uk) has done the majority of the fundraising to buy the ambulance (around £20,000). However, we were hoping to raise a little more to buy further aid, fuel, ferry crossings and supplies for the upcoming 3,700 mile trip.
