Vintage Magnet Play Yard Projects

Donation protected
Hello,
     My name is Joseph Blair and I would like to ask for your support in completing my Eagle Project.  I am currently a Life Scout in Troop 415 in Granada Hills, California.   This summer I will be improving the play yards at the elementary school I attended.  This school is located in North Hills, California and currently serves over 800 students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade.
       I chose Vintage Magnet Elementary as the location I was hoping to benefit from my Eagle Project because both my sister and I had the opportunity to attend this great math, science and technology magnet program from kindergarten through fifth grade.  Even after graduating, I returned to help some of my former teachers with special events and projects that I'd enjoyed as an elementary student.
         In returning to this campus, I noticed in the budget cuts and reduced spending, such areas as the play yards were still in the same condition but were now being used by many more students.   As a result of the changing demands it was apparent that these yards were in need of upgrades and updates.   With all the academic demands on kids today I realized it is equally important that they enjoy the time they spend outside  during their school day which is their opportunity to play and learn in places other than their classrooms.
         It was the result of these ideas and my observations that I developed my Eagle Project plan.  My overall project plan involves a redesign of the kindergarten play yard and improvements to the existing primary and upper grade level play yards.

          These are the specific areas to be completed:

1) The kindergarten yard which involves filling in an old garden plot to make a size appropriate basketball court;
(Dirt removal and concrete slab consisting of 5.3 cubic yards of concrete for 18ft x 6ft court, and basketball hoop)

2) Build replacement garden boxes to relocate the gardening activities; and

(Dirt from concrete removal to be used in planter boxes once built)

3) Redesign the play yard with a trike track and new playground games.

         On the upper grade yards I will also make the following improvements:
1) Paint four basketball backboards;

2) Paint four handball walls with the lines and zones required for the game; and

3) Paint one large multiplication chart to be used by all grade levels.

    I am aware that  the primary material needed, specifically  the concrete, is very expensive so any support that you may provide will be greatly appreciated.    I will update my progress as my project plan moves forward.

Thank you for your kind support.
- Joe
