Joe was the youngest of two children to a single mother, only becoming single after she lost her husband while Joe was an infant. He had much to overcome at a young age after being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 11.

He fought hard to maintain a healthy life while continuing to suffer from his diabetes. Despite his issues he went to college, joined the army, and did all of the things your supposed to do as a young man even though his diabetes could sometimes be crippling and would later cause serious issues.
Fast forward to the later part of 2015, Joe was diagnosed with Stage 5 Kidney Disease and would be put on hemo-dialysis until he could receive a kidney transplant. Along with his kidney disease, he began to have issues with his heart and had to have 2 stents placed in his heart to help it function properly.

While going to dialysis 3, sometimes 4, times a week over the next 2 years, he continued to have serious concerns about his heart and in 2017 had a heart attack and had to undergo a double bypass to help save his life. After this surgery, his nerve damage pain and pain from past injuries started to become unbearable, at times coming to tears from it.
While struggling with breakthrough pain Joe went into the hospital on March 13, 2019, the next morning he was found unresponsive and had to be shocked to bring him back. During this stay at the hospital doctors performed a procedure to see what may have caused this to happen, they found that he had 70% blockage to his L.A.D and 95% blockage on another part of his already weak heart. Joe left the hospital on March 27th, 2019 after the doctors expressed concern about doing any surgery while he was taking his pain medication, he was left with no choice but to seek help at the V.A.
On March 30, 2019, Joe was found in bed by myself, his partner for the last 7 years, I checked for a pulse or breathing but could only hear my own, I called 911. I started performing compression for 5 minutes before the paramedics arrived. Once in the ambulance they continued compression and again at the hospital, in total almost a hour before he was pronounced dead at the age 37.
This fund will, first and foremost, help to cover cost of cremation and memorial services and anything additional will help to cover living expenses for myself now that I won't have his income.
That day I lost my partner, my best friend, the love of my life to things out of his control. I hope that anyone he touched can remember him as the bright light in the dark he was and not his illnesses or his pain. I know that he is no longer suffering and can finally rest. I love you, my sweet Bebo.
