Joe Favor’s winter clothes for children
Spende geschützt
This idea came to me as a way to help cope with loss. First it was the loss of friends, and sadly... now with the loss of my father Joseph F. Favor Jr. Over the course of roughly 16 months I, as many others also had what seemed to be a never ending relationship with death. I’m not going to name all of my fallen angels. I will name one, My best friend. My body guard. One person I could always count on. Petey Beans. Pete took his own life on September 11th 2017 and after a long battle with denial, regret, anger and sadness... it seems as if I am most likely the last person to hear his voice. It’s something that haunts to me this day.. the only reason why I mention that is because as I said, this started as a way for me to cope with loss... Pete would donate to St. Jude’s every month. Every holiday season, he would buy toys and donate them. He once told me that he had a dream to build a park for kids so they can feel safe and have a place to just be kids and play. So with that being said, then there’s my father. Who would do absolutely anything he could to help someone in need. I’ve used this story before and I’ll use it again. This story was the deciding factor for me to take this down the route of winter clothes rather than toys. My sister Tracy was a teacher in Brooklyn, she would come home every night and have us crying at the dinner table with her stories about her students (2nd grade I believe). One night she came home and she didn’t have us cracking up, instead she was crying. It was in the heart of the winter and some of her students could not come to school because they did not have winter jackets. Once my father heard this, he got up and walked out of the house. He returned some time later with roughly 15 jackets for my sister to bring to her class.... that’s why I want your help to raise money and help as many kids as possible. I did this last year as a very spur of the moment type of decision. I didn’t think I could organize something like this and actually have it be successful. Well we raised $1245 last year. That bought jackets, boots, scarfs, and gloves for 16 students from my old grammar school. We had $800 left over because my mother is an amazing bargain shopper. We then bought 8 - $100 gift cards to shoprite so that 8 family’s could go buy food for a nice holiday meal. Last year was such an amazing turnout that you guys made it very easy for me to want to organize this again. I want this to be a yearly thing that hopefully just gets bigger and better. We already have $500. Thank you to everyone who donated last year and for those who plan on helping this year. #nochildshouldbecold
