Cancer is the number one cause of death in North America, it affects both children and adults. Indeed, who doesn’t know someone in their entourage who has undertaken the battle against cancer?
My brother-in-law Frederic Dessureault has been diagnose, at the young age of 30, with lymph node cancer in its advance stages, he is my foremost source of inspiration. He is most likely the person I’ve met in my lifetime who has the strongest mental will. Today, at only 33 years old, he has already vanquished cancer on two occasions by undergoing months of chemotherapy. I thank God that he is presently in remission from this terrible illness. Although, I always have a residual fear in the back of my mind that there could be a relapse anytime. What would be left for him if chemotherapy doesn’t work that time? The answer is…. EXPERIMENTAL treatments who are solely dependant on medical research done on cancer. The problem is that my brother-in-law, Frederic, is but one of thousands of people who are in this misfortunate situation.
Regrettably, our “great” government has recently decided to cut major sources of funding directed to cancer research. I’ve taken upon myself to get proactive, by creating my own campaign to raise money to help in funding cancer research, because this cause is dear to my heart and I want to be one of those persons who has acted to compensate for the recent loss of governmental funding.
After the 15 kilometers swim across Lake Massawipi last year along with the 3,000$ which were raised and donated to the department of hemato-oncology at the Hospital Center of the University of Montréal (CHUM), I’ve decided to undertake and train even harder in order to accomplish a greater challenge. On July 18th 2016, I will swim across Lake Memphrémagog, from the USA to Québec, while being followed by boats and kayaks. The American organisation Kingdom Games, who made it possible for me to accomplish this challenge, has officially opened the event in order to raise funding; the Georgeville of Bust open water swim. I invite other swimmers to join me if they are interested in the cause and the challenge!
I will swim consecutively for 10 hours or more, not just for Frederic, but for all young warriors who wage the battle on cancer on a daily basis and whose lives depend on the maintenance of experimental research. All money raised will be given to the department of hemato-oncology at the CHUM for research on leukemia and lymphoma, two cancers that are susceptible to appear at a young age!
Help me raise funding by committing yourself to a small donation so we can continue to develop new treatments to treat cancer and save the lives of many affected young people.
I’d further like to thank my coach Pierre Thiffault (TEAM coach PT), Patou Print, Frontenac academy and Phil White of the organisation Kingdom Games who afforded me the chance to undertake this ambitious challenge.

Le cancer est la première cause de décès en Amérique du Nord, touchant autant les enfants que les adultes. En effet, qui ne connaît pas quelqu'un de son entourage qui a dû se battre pour sa survie ?
Mon beau-frère Frederic Dessureault, diagnostiqué à l'âge de 30 ans avec un cancer des ganglions à un stade avancé, fait parti de mes sources d'inspiration. C'est probablement la personne la plus forte mentalement que j'ai connue. Aujourd'hui, à seulement 33 ans, il a déjà vaincu à deux reprises le cancer en surmontant des mois de chimiothérapie. Il est maintenant en rémission, dieu merci. Mais si jamais le cancer revenait par malchance? Qu'est-ce qu'il lui resterait ? La réponse est ...des traitements EXPÉRIMENTAUX qui dépendent uniquement de la recherche sur le cancer. Le problème c'est que Fred n'est qu'une seule personne parmi des miliers à être dans cette situation.
Malheureusement, notre¨ super¨ gouvernement a récemment décidé de couper la majeure partie des fonds budgétaires destinés à la recherche sur le cancer. J'ai donc décidé de donner un peu du mien en créant des levées de fond annuelles, parce que c'est une cause qui me tient particulièrement à coeur et je veux être une des personnes ayant contribuée à diminuer l'impact de ses coupures budgetaires.
Après les 15 km du Lac Massawippi l'an dernier et le don de 3000 $ que j'ai fait au département d'hémato-oncologie du CHUM, j'ai décidé de m'entraîner plus fort cette année afin de réaliser un défi de plus grande taille. En ce 18 juillet 2016, je traverserai le lac Memphrémagog des USA au Québec à la nage. accompagnée de bateaux et de kayakistes. L'organisation américaine kingdom games, qui me permet de réaliser ce beau défi, a ouvert un événement pour ma levée de fond; the Georgeville of Bust open water swim. Quelques autres nageurs pourront s'inscrire avec moi pour la traversée s'il y a des intéressés.
Je nagerai pendant plus de 10h, pas juste pour Fred, mais pour tous les jeunes guerriers atteints du cancer dont la survie dépend maintenant de traitements expérimentaux. Tout l'argent amassé ira directement au département de recherche en HÉMATO-ONCOLOGIE du CHUM pour la recherche sur la leucémie et le lymphome; des cancers qui frappent particulièrement en bas âge !!!
Aidez-moi à amasser de l'argent en faisant un petit don pour que nous puissions continuer à développer des nouveaux traitements contre le cancer et sauver de jeunes vies.
