NEUROSARCOIDOSIS
A living hell that you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy!

Jerry Beaugez is only 49 years old and until April of 2018, he had never had much more than a common cold in the way of health issues.

Then came the symptoms and to change the words of an old song...
“These are a few of his LEAST favorite things.”

Daily life with Neurosarcoidosis, in Jerry’s case, can include:
·    Difficulty in breathing (shortness of breath)
·    Feelings of heaviness and constriction - like walking around in a wet  suit for diving
·    Extreme fatigue
·    Excessive tiredness
·    Back pain
·    Abnormal sensations in the body (as if the skin is sweating/cold)
·    Hypersensitivity to heat and heat therapy will actually cause blisters and drain all of his energy
·    Tingling/pins & needles
·    Numbness in hands and feet
·    Burning, ON FIRE, sensations going down legs
·    Feeling like his ankles and knees will EXPLODE
·    Twitching of hands and feet
·    Being off balanced like he’s on a boat in rough water
·    Hyper reflexes
·    His senses of sight, sound and touch are sometimes “off” and    overwhelming
·    His gait is off and he walks with a “hitch” having to drag his right foot

There are days when he has cramps and rolling spasms that you can physically see happening under the skin. Some days there’s too much pain or weakness to get up from a seated position or walk farther than from the bed to the bathroom and back.

Recent days are requiring the use of a cane, walker or a wheelchair to get around. And those are just a few of the things he’s battling!

There’s really not much awareness or understanding of this disease, even among seasoned medical professionals, due to it being so uncommon and difficult to diagnosis.

Neurosarcoidosis a complication of Sarcoidosis involving inflammatory cells abnormally depositing in the tissues of the central nervous system.

In Jerry’s case, at this point, it has most dramatically affected his spinal cord. One of the pictures you see is an MRI image showing how his spinal cord was swelling within the spinal column and causing damage to the cord itself. The arrows show where the spinal fluid was being severely hindered from flowing correctly, thereby causing this multitude of debilitating symptoms.

To add insult to injury, during the surgery to relieve the pressure on his spinal cord, a microscopic slither of his spinal cord was biopsied leaving his right hand with very limited grip and function.

Massive doses of steroids, and chemo (two different types: first tried methotrexate in pill form and now cytoxan monthly infusions) are among the medical treatments (post op) being used to hopefully “reboot” his immune system. These treatments, in and of themselves, wreak havoc on a body and their side effects have made even more medicines necessary to try to relieve adverse events.

All of this leaves in its wake the inability for Jerry to currently work and the mounting of bills for his family. BUT! Through it all, our hope is still that the doctors can find a way to get this mess under control and get him feeling better again!

Your daily prayers and kind thoughts of healing are welcomed. If you feel led to help out financially during this time of major need it would be so very appreciated by all!!!

Please feel free to share this page with friends to raise awareness of this dreadful disease in hopes of more research being done to find a cure.
